How We Work

We match talent to task for each mandate, as described in the example below, working with a network of trusted experts and professionals.  These include some of the most senior people in the country from a range of disciplines and industries as well as skilled and trusted researchers, data analysts etc.  This allows to meet each client’s unique needs without over-processing, over-staffing, and saddling clients with unneeded overhead.

The following example illustrates the point:

We were called by a Director of a publicly listed packaged goods manufacturer. The business was bleeding cash and losing market share. Activist investors were mounting a proxy fight. We were asked to determine why the business was failing; to recommend action to stop the bleeding and stabilize the business, as well to chart a path to growth.

Within 48 hours we had assembled a team of experts that included:

  • A CA to examine the company’s cost accounting and currency hedging, which were determined to be problem areas;

  • A senior manufacturing engineer to examine the client’s manufacturing operations;

  • A former Loblaw executive who reviewed the company’s retail relationships and trade spending;

  • A consumer research expert who helped us develop new product concepts.

Our comprehensive review included working with management on behalf of the board, conducting a full analysis of a public food business with the objective of enhancing shareholder value. At the time, the business was struggling, results were poor, and activist shareholders were mounting a proxy fight. Our comprehensive review included manufacturing operations, cost accounting systems, currency-hedging practices, sales, marketing, trade spending, and a review of profitability by customer. A major piece of consumer research was also fielded including the testing of new product concepts. Unprofitable lines of business and unprofitable products were identified and pruned. The business was simplified and focused on the areas where it could compete and win profitably. Recommendations to improve both the top and bottom lines were approved by the board, paving the road to a successful sale of the business.

Our networks and relationships can be leveraged to benefit our clients, as in the example above, bringing uniquely relevant expertise to work for them.
